Budgies on a Teapot, limited edition fine art print
Budgies on a Teapot, limited edition fine art print
Budgies are popular pets all over the world, but are native to Australia.
The name stems from the Gamilaraay Aboriginal language name ‘Betcherrygah’, which is thought to mean ‘good food’, according to Bush Heritage Australia. It’s unknown whether this means the bird itself is good eating, or whether their seed-seeking migrations led Gamilaraay to places of rainfall and abundant food.
These friendly little companions are monogamous for life and are found throughout Australia's interior, west of the Great Dividing Range. They can be taught to mimic speech and are nomadic - flying north for winter.
For such faithful birds, it is appropriate that the knitting pattern evolves from diamonds into hearts across the middle of the teapot.
