Pitch Perfect – Magpie

My intention, going into this work was to create a feeling of colour harmony, keeping to a limited palette of muted colours in the background to allow the bird to take centre stage. The wallpaper is based on 'The Kingsbury' (1900) by Harry Napper, English (1860-1940). I liked the design which reminded me of the Kay Rasmus Nielsen fairy tale illustrations that captivated me as a child.
The bird is standing on a Louis XIV style gilt-bronze mounted brass, ebony and tortoiseshell base.
